NASSER PLACED THE PHONE back in its cradle and stared straight ahead at nothing in particular. His mind, too, was on the grave loss of life. 24 – The Hunt For Red November – Chapter 11

4166_640

MAJOR GEORGE NELSON, sat the Sikorsky Black Hawk Helicopter down on a seldom used taxiway of the Lask US Air Force Base in Lodz, Germany and waited.

Within minutes, armed soldiers from Base Security had flanked the helicopter and were staging their assault. When Major Nelson saw the troops move into the Wedge Formation and their leader give the ‘I’m ready’ signal, he immediately got on the chopper’s loud speaker an announced in German, English, and Polish, “I am Air Force pilot Major George Nelson. On board with me are Air Force Colonel Jim Madison, two Navy Seals, Operations Officer Roy Johnson and Chief Petty Officer Tavin Kaslowski. Also on board is a Russian civilian by the name of Alyosha Vasnev. We are landing at Lask by order of the President of the United States of America.”

There was a long silence as Nelson and the men he’d rescued from the Black Dolphin prison waited for the soldiers to lower their weapons and hopefully, orders to disembark.

“You on board, step out of the helicopter with your hands raised above your heads. Once you are outside on the tarmac, you will immediately turn and face the helicopter. If you make any attempt to run or escape, you will be shot. Is that clear?” was the reply.

“I believe this is where you get out White boy,” Johnson said jokingly to Kaslowski.
“Senior officers first,” returned Kaslowski.

“No way, Johnson replied laughingly. You know they always ‘accidentally’ shot the Black guy.”

“That’s why you’re getting out first. Saves time and bullets,” laughed Kaslowski.

Alyosha was growing more and more fearful by the second, as Johnson and Kaslowski bantered back and forth.

“Gentlemen, I believe our hosts are growing impatient,” Madison announced. Unstrapping himself, he raised his hands above his head, and stepped out of the helicopter onto German soil.

MEANWHILE, back at The Peace Court in The Hague, Netherlands, court was in full session with The Registrar nearing the end of the reading of the list of charges and offenses against those countries that had participated in the war against the United States, when the Russian President, Spiridon Ivanovich, jumped to his feet and screamed, “You Damn Arab Tinker! Traitorous bastard! I will hang you by your agal!”

There were audible gasps throughout the room and the international panel of Judges pounded their gavels with furious intensity against the round brown blocks on their desks.
“Oder in the Court,” yelled the President of the Court, a Frenchman. The Court does not recognize the Russian President’s right to speak. President Ivanovich please take your seat.”

A smug look of satisfaction spread across President Khamis’ face as he took in the Russian President’s obvious agitation over what he assumed – given his outburst – had been a successful mission. If Madison’s team had indeed succeeded in rescuing him, then by all means, he must meet with Madison face to face and soon. Ivanovich was no fool, thought Khamis. And he had thousands of dead Americans to prove it. Ivanovich, he guessed, knew exactly who Madison and his team had been hunting and why. If Ruyah al-Basir bint al-Azia bin al-Saba and her weapon fell into the hands of the Russian President, America would spend the rest of its days capitulating to Russia and that, Khamis, knew must not happen, at least, not while he was President.

Rising to the occasion, but ignoring the Russian President’s racial slurs, Khamis baited the man by responding, “Need I remind you President Ivanovich that it was your country that perpetrated the offenses against America? And it was by your orders — while you sat here in this Hallowed Place – Khamis shouted waiving his hand in the direction of the Judges — that one of our citizens was kidnapped and held against his will. You have no reason to complain treachery given that I have not destroyed thousands of acres of your land and killed as many people by dropping atomic bombs on you?”

“Order! Order in the Court! President Ivanovich and President Khamis you are both, hereby ordered to remove yourselves from The Court’s presence.”

Again Khamis smiled for that was exactly what he wanted.
BACK IN NEW YORK, Stone called Missy into his office and asked, “Where was President Khamis born?”
“I don’t know, sir.”
“Find out. And Missy, schedule a Press Conference for me on Wednesday on the main floor. I have a major announcement to make.  I’ll give you all the specifics later.”
“Yes, sir.”

The 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference

https//thehuntforrednovember.wordpress.com

Below are a few points taken from an article on the November 30 – December 12, 2015 Paris Conference on Climate Change published by By Mario Marroquin, AccuWeather.com Staff Writer . Click here for the full article.

1. The United Nations Releases Report on the Human Cost of Weather-Related Disasters

In a recent publication by the United Nations Office for Disaster and Risk Reduction, the agency claimed that since 1995, over 606,000 people have died due to weather-related disasters.

Moreover, more than 4.1 billion people were left injured, homeless or in need of emergency assistance as a result of these disasters.

Over four billion people, which is more than half of the world’s current population, comprise enough of the labor force to impact the economy of a whole continent. The data from the report suggests that Africa alone saw a loss between $250 and $300 billion in the last decade.

The study also found that roughly 355 weather-related disasters occurred every year between 2005 and 2014. The total of 355 disasters is a 14 percent increase from the previous 10 years, 1995 to 2004, and almost twice as many weather-related disasters than the prior decade from 1985 to 1994. The disasters from the last ten years, on average, have claimed the lives of over 30,000 people annually.

2. World Bank Issues Report on Climate Change and Poverty
A 2015 study by the World Bank found that up to 165 million more people could move into extreme poverty by 2030 as a consequence of climate change.

3. How the Political Climate Will Influence Decision Making
Like most policies, an agreement being reached in this year’s climate conference will depend upon the politicians. Both U.S. President Barack Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping have submitted carbon pledges.
Since the attacks in Paris, both President Obama and President Hollande of France have agreed to work with Russian President Vladimir Putin so long as support for the Assad regime is withdrawn.

It’s not a coincidence that immediately prior to the civil war in Syria, the country experienced its worst drought on record,” Secretary of State John F. Kerry said in a speech at Virginia’s Old Dominion University on Nov. 10. “As many as 1.5 million people migrated from Syria’s farms to its cities, intensifying the political unrest that was just beginning to roil and boil in the region.”

My writer’s imagination says, “What if, the heads of three of those countries, that met in Paris, were really meeting in order to sign an agreement not to make war on each other anymore using weather as a weapon.”

Chapter 10

ARNOLD STONE sat in his offices at Graystone Tower going over the specifics of his latest contract with NBC.

A single season of his hit show, The Entrepreneur would net him as much as a year’s worth of rent on one of his Tribeca apartments.  He had pen in hand about to sign when Missy, his tall, shapely, blonde blue eyed, Swedish born, secretary buzzed in with news of an unexpected visitor.

Yesterday, while searching to see if readers were indeed reading 24 The Hunt For Red November, I came across something interesting.  A Facebook page with the same name.

Unfortunately, this facebook page DOES NOT belong to me nor is it a part of the ebook.

However, I do appreciate this fan’s initiative.  But again, to all my readers, this is not my Facebook page.

Why Paris

Hong Kong France Paris Attacks

Home

As some of you know my novel, OneThreeThirteen – Master of the Day Of Judgment, is partially set in Paris, France as is my new novel, 24 – The Hunt For Red November.

My gut reaction when I first heard of the Paris attacks was to stop blogging new chapters of ‘24 The Hunt For Red November’ because it was never my intention to inspire any form of violence with my books.

However, I’d like to explain why I chose Paris for these books.  Unlike a lot of you, I understand that the people behind these attacks are NOT the poor and downtrodden inhabitants of Syria or Afghanistan.   Far from it.  The people behind ISIL, The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, and even the Taliban have money and lots of it.  And where else can you flash that much cash, outside of Saudi Arabia and Dubai, and go unnoticed except for Paris.

And secondly, if you’re going to attack a country such as the United States you have to do it in increments, as in attacking its allies first.

Greece was the first to go with the destabilization of its currency, then Turkey with a Civil War, and now Germany and Italy are being overrun with Syrian refugees.  And on the same Friday that Paris was attacked, an earthquake of 7.0 magnitude struck Japan.

With much regret and a watchful eye, I’d like to send my sincere sympathies to the people of Paris.
